Abstract:

Having a clear and effective IP strategy is important for any researcher or business involved with R&D.  It ensures you have the right reasons for focusing on a particular area of research, for selecting what kinds of innovations to protect, how broadly to file for protection, and what kind of risks to be aware of.  The secret is in focusing on the right issues, and knowing what strategies are available for different scenarios.  This presentation will touch on the following topics and their impact on IP strategy:

1.         What IP protection is available for technical innovations

2.         How to select what innovations to protect and how

3.         Managing IP risk in commercialisation

4.         Patent filing trends (among selected universities around the world)

Key takeaways

  • This is a good refresher for researchers on what IP rights are all about, and provides some framework for spotting any gaps in their current IP strategy.
  • This will help better prepare researchers when it comes time to commercialise their innovations or apply for grants.

Date/Time: 22 Sep, 1:00 - 2:00 pm (HKT)
